Dolphins - Year 3

Hi and Welcome to Dolphins!

I am Miss Marriott and I will be teaching in the Dolphins class this year with the support of Mrs Selves.

Autumn 2

Wow! What a fantastic term Autumn 1 turned out to be. It has been lovely getting to know the wonderful children in Dolphins class. We've had a great time settling into new routines, exploring exciting topics, and growing together as a team. I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such curious learners and I can't wait to see all the things we'll achieve together this term!

Kicking off with some reminders...

PE continues to be on a Monday afternoon, but this term Dolphins will be swimming during that time. Please remember the correct swimming kits; swimming hat, costume/trunks, towel and earrings out. As well as written permission for your child to wear goggles.

Forest school will also be continuing on rotational Tuesday afternoons. Forest kits will be needed on these dates:

Tuesday 12th November

Tuesday 26th November

Tuesday 10th December

Your child will need a change of shoes (wellies/trainers) and long-sleeved clothing to participate in activities at the forest safely. Trousers are needed. We will be attending the forest in all weathers so please ensure you send your child with appropriate clothing each week.

For both PE and Forest school sessions, the no earrings rule still stands. We are not permitted to remove earrings in school and tape can no longer be used instead of removing earrings. Children will miss their PE lessons if they are unable to take out their earrings independently.

General Reminders:

Tuck shop will be available at break times. If your child would like to bring their own snack for break, this needs to be a healthy item e.g. fruit.

Lost property saw an influx of jumpers and cardigans throughout Autumn 1. The majority were successfully returned to their owners but just a reminder to please label them!

Now onto the fun stuff...

Autumn 2 curriculum

In English, we are diving back into the world of water. We will be continuing our watery adventure with another book called Nen and the Lonely Fisherman by Ian Eagleton. The children will get the opportunity to write a fantasy story based on a classic tale.

In Maths, we will be focusing on addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

In Science, we'll be pulling out all the stops to explore forces and magnets.

In Geography, we're setting off on an adventure to explore cities across the UK. We'll be mapping out all the best landmarks.

In DT, we will be learning about cooking and nutrition and the wonders of seasonal eating.

Last term, our budding musicians got hands-on with percussion instruments and rhythm and this term we will be taking it to the next level. We'll be writing our own song - so get ready for some chart-topping hits from the Dolphins!

In computing, we will be capturing and editing digital still images to produce a stop-frame animation that tells a story.

In our French lessons, we will continue to focus on phonetics to understand how to correctly pronounce spoken words as well as learning some animal names!

I can't wait to see you all and hear about the adventures you have been up to this half-term!

Autumn 1

In English, we will be diving in to Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman. The children will have the chance to write a letter immersing themselves into various characters.

In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

In Science, our Geologists’ caps will be firmly cemented as we explore rocks and fossils and their fascinating properties.

In Art we will be developing our drawing skills through examining different artists’ work and in Design and Technology we will be exploring cooking and nutrition.

Music lessons will be led by Mrs Bright, who will introduce the children to tuned percussion instruments, broadening their musical horizons.

In Computing we will be identifying digital devices and how devices can be connected to make networks.

French will commence! Allez!  The children will be introduced to the subject through phonetics to understand how to correctly pronounce spoken words.

PE sessions will test the children’s sense of direction as they use maps to navigate themselves in orienteering.

During PSHE lessons we will be focusing on family and relationships.

I look forward to seeing you all and welcoming you to Year 3!
