History

History is the study of the past, in particular the changes over time that have occurred within human society.

An effective history education in our primary school is to provide our pupils with a rich, engaging, and well-structured curriculum that stimulates their curiosity, enhances their understanding of the past, and develops their historical knowledge, skills, and concepts. Our aim is to ensure that our pupils have a deep appreciation of the historical events, people, and societies that have shaped our world. We seek to instil an enthusiasm for the subject, foster critical thinking, and nurture a sense of identity and belonging within the local, national, and global contexts.

History provides meaningful opportunities to develop spirituality and align with our vision of John 10:10, which speaks of living life to the fullest. By exploring historical events, figures, and cultures, children can reflect on the moral lessons and values that have shaped human societies over time. History allows students to understand the impact of virtues (and our Christian Values) such as compassion and justice, which are central to spiritual growth.

Through studying diverse cultures and the challenges faced by people in the past, our pupils learn empathy and the importance of making choices that contribute to a just and loving world. This understanding helps them to live out the vision of John 10:10, striving to lead lives enriched with purpose and meaning, rooted in a deep connection to others and a commitment to the common good.

Furthermore, history encourages critical thinking and the ability to see beyond oneself, recognising the interconnectedness of all human beings. This perspective nurtures a spiritual awareness that aligns with the fullness of life that John 10:10 envisions, fostering a sense of responsibility to contribute positively to the world and live in harmony with God's purpose for humanity.
