Schools are so much more than educational establishments, schools are places where children feel safe, feel celebrated and feel a sense of shared belonging . They're places where children flourish and learn to form friendships, they learn values and their experience of school help shape who they become.

For me, being a School Governor is more than academia, it's about ensuring children get the best possible experience whilst at school to enable them all to reach their own potential.

I am new to the Governing body; however, I feel my background as a registered Social Worker supports me in this role. In addition to attending the PPG committee, I am also Safeguarding link Governor - a role I am undoubtedly committed to, to support our school in continuing to place our pupils welfare central to all they do.

I have been able to use my profession to support the school in many aspects including leading on Health and Safety and taking an interest in finance and resource committee, which I find very fulfilling. I have a regular presence at the school both personally for my son, and professionally, which I feel helps my role as a Governor. For me, being a Governor means helping to shape the adults of tomorrow.

I can still remember my own days at primary school and the events that helped to shape the person I am today. I became a governor to help other children have the same opportunities I had - and hopefully enjoy learning just as much!

My main roles are vice-chair and link governor for the curriculum, which I find rewarding as it's such an important part of making different subjects relatable, engaging and inspiring for all children.

I work as a project manager so I am used to developing strategies, making action plans and monitoring outcomes, and I enjoy using these skills in a voluntary capacity at Eye.

I live in Eye and have 3 children. My youngest 2 attended Eye Primary School and my eldest is currently a teacher at Eye. I have been a foundation governor since 2017. As a qualified accountant, my particular area of expertise is finance and I chair the finance and resources committee. I am also a member of the PPG committee, which I find very rewarding.

Most children have formed their worldview and values by the age of nine - and much of it before they are just six years old. This is why the early years are so invaluable and the main reason why I am excited to have recently become a Foundation Governor at Eye Primary School. I am a Mum of four, with two children who attend at Eye, and I also work part-time at my local church in pastoral care. I am personally passionate about giving the children of Eye Primary School an opportunity to explore the big questions of life and faith during their time with us. I am also committed to our school being a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment in which they can grow and develop.

Jemma Keegan

I live in Eye and have two older teenagers who attended Eye Primary. I've been a co-opted Governor at Eye since 2014. My roles are Chair of our PPG committee and lead governor for SEND. I enjoy supporting Eye Primary with the experience I've gained through my work in the local authority and charity sectors. I've chosen a quote by Martin Luther King (with whom I share a birthday) to explain what being a Governor means to me: "Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in." MLK 1959.

Darren Buckman

I’m a resident in the village of Eye with a child attending the school. I have recently taken the role of Chair of Governors; prior to this I joined as a Parent Governor in 2019. During this time, I have been able to support with Health & Safety, Finance, and the overall strategic development of the school.

I’m very passionate about the development of young people and feel it’s very important that every child is supported in realising their full potential. Through my professional work in both the commercial and charity sector, I feel this supports me in my work for the school and community.
