Languages (French)
Learning French introduces us to the basics of the French language and culture, building confidence in listening, speaking, and understanding French, laying a foundation for further language learning in later years.
At Eye CE Primary School, our aim for teaching French is to provide all pupils with a high-quality language education that fosters enthusiasm and appreciation for the French language and culture.
French is taught in KS2 at Eye (beginning in year 3).
Our aim is to develop pupils' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in French while instilling an understanding and respect for cultural diversity. We believe that learning French not only enhances linguistic abilities but also promotes cultural awareness and global citizenship amongst our pupils.
Our curriculum is designed to inspire a love for language learning and equip pupils with the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in French orally before then progressing to writing.
*We use a programme called Language Angels to support our curriculum.
Learning French aligns closely with the vision and values of "living life in all its fullness" (John 10:10) by offering pupils rich opportunities for holistic development, including spiritual growth. Engaging with a new language broadens children's perspectives, enabling them to connect with diverse cultures and people, which fosters a deeper understanding of the world and enhances their sense of global community.
